The Tempest Act 1,Scene 2

1.How does Prospero treat the following three characters: Miranda, Ariel, Caliban?2.How does Caliban feel about Prospero?Refer at least two specific instances in the text, using supporting quotations and begin to explore Prospero’s language where you can.

3.How does Miranda react to Ferdinand?4.How does Ferdinand react to Miranda?5.Why do you believe Prospero has brought his ‘enemies’ to the island?Refer to the text to support your idea.

1.Miranda is Prospero’s daughter and they both escaped death when his brother gets rid of him as a Duke of Milan and he is forced to leave. His daughter didn’t know about that but as soon as they got on the island looking at the shipwreck he explained to her what’s happened. Then he gives her from his magic and she falls asleep. That shows me that he doesn’t treat his daughter normal. As he explains to her everything he wants to protect her from his past.

While she’s sleeping Prospero calls one of his servants the spirit Ariel.During his conversation with the spirit I learned that they both are responsible for the storm earlier and Ariel flying all around the boat  acted as the wind, thunder and the lightning.Prospero requested that and after he’s  done with his job he went to ask for the promise that Prospero made. But what he didn’t know is that his boss doesn’t want to be reminded of his promises. As the spirit asked about his 1 year off Prospero reminds Ariel about his past and that he was imprisoned by Sycorax(the witch). All that shows me that Ariel is being treated as Prospero’s servant. He wants the spirit to do all the dirty jobs and he tells him exactly what to do.

Caliban(the son of the witch) is treated as slave.Prospero shouts at him

2.So Caliban is the son of the witch who the island belonged to.After Miranda was awake she went to visit him with her father.Caliban doesn’t feel good about Prospero because he is being rude to him and he thinks he can control him.Few lines later Caliban says “This island’s mine” and I think he mentions that because of his mum who died.

3.When she met him for the first time she thought he’s a spirit, but her father explains to her that he eats, sleeps and has the same senses as they do.Miranda decides to call him ‘A thing of divine’.That shows me that she is surprised when she meets him because that’s the first time she sees such person.

4.When he meets Miranda he likes her and he asks her if she will remain on this island with him.During their conversation Ferdinand explains to Miranda that he will make her the Queen of Naples.

They’d buy Smarties, lick the shells of the red ones, and rub swathes of scarlet food colouring across their lips. They were doing it when the bell rang. She opened the door and man and women stood there. They asked if either mum or dad were at home but she answered that mum is at work, and she is not coming back until 6pm.Tayler and Therese were clinging to her legs. The people staying at the door were  police officers who were looking for a missing girl. As none of their parents were at home they asked the kids if they have seen that girl. They shook heads. As they didn’t recognise the girl from the picture the police officers left the house.

Technology is destroying the English language

Technology is destroying the English language so today our parents fear for our future. As a 15 year old teenager I use technology all the time. I think that all teachers will agree that technology is destroying the English language.

Communicative devices breeds different usage of the existing language. An examples are texting and netspeaking which are different. That’s because when you text someone you abbreviate words like U for you, 2 for to. These abbreviations, which are used by young people, are actually changing the English language.

I’ve checked that over 60% of the young people aged under 17 years old use instant messages when online, and such language is growing every day. Which way is too bad for the English language because in the future we won’t be able to write and speak properly.

I use technology every day. Technology which I’m using is laptop, tablet and phone. I realized that my way of writing messages is different from my parents way because they use proper words. When I use my phone to text someone often I replace my words and emotions with emojis. They are different faces which show expressions and emotions. Mostly they’re used by young people but sometimes by older people, too.

Another thing is the idiolect. Which are the word I use most of the time. My idiolects are strange because I don’t use a lot of words and maybe the most used is cool and Oh my god. I use it when I agree with something or I want to say ok.

Slang is informal language used with people that you know. An example of slang is when you give someone a pen and he says: “safe” by this word he means ok, goo, thank you. Another example is dead. When someone say it this means it not good or it is very boring. Slang is used in certain groups to try and make sure that other don’t know for what you are talking about.

Stick a Badge On It

Every badge available for you to earn can be found online on our special badge site: achieve.community.edutronic.net

When you submit something for assessment your teacher will evaluate it against the published criteria for each badge. You can submit work for assessment at any time – and the work can come from inside our outside the classroom.

The criteria is published in conjunction with each achievement badge, along with samples of other students’ work that has met the criteria, so you can be clear about the standards that are expected.

If your work successfully meets the criteria then your teacher will award you that badge. You will receive an email, it will be added to your Credly account and it will show up on the right side of the page whenever you log into the achievement site.

If you want to know more of what is required to unlock an achievement, simply click on its icon or title. Here are a few examples from English, Drama and Science:

Wide Reading Project

753f9f17cf6ccc4a907e32e089064b73

During the year you will be asked to read a wide range of texts. Using texts studied in class as well as texts you have selected you will also complete a log of the reading process. Overall you will read eight texts including at least six written texts and two visual texts. You will complete log entries on each text and present a report on your findings.

Attached is the outline of your required personal reading project – inside is the guidance you need to make sure your own-choice reading is going to meet the wide reading criteria.

You can always ask your teacher for advice about which texts would be best to concentrate on – and once you’ve read each text, you’ll then be asked to write a journal entry on your blog explaining how it helped develop your understanding of The Individual and Society.

This year everyone in the school will be required to have a ‘book at hand’ – and for English students, it makes a good idea to make that book one that helps you towards this reading project.

This is Your Online Domain

Hello and welcome to your personal online journal.

Edutronic has been created to enhance and enrich your learning at the London Nautical School. Its purpose is to provide you with an audience for your work (or work-in-progress) and you have the choice (by altering the ‘visibility’ of your posts) of whether your work on here is visible to the world, or only to your teacher.

Anything you post here in the public domain represents you and thus it’s important that you take care with that decision, but don’t be afraid to publish your work – as the feedback you may get from people at home, your peers and people from around the internet is only likely to enhance it.

Remember you can always access your class blog and all manner of resources through the Edutronic main website – and by all means check out the sites of your peers to see what they’re getting up to as well.

If you have any questions for your teacher, an excellent way to get an answer is to create a new private post on this journal. Your teachers are am notified of any new posts and will reply swiftly to any queries.

Make the most of, and enjoy this new freedom in your English learning!
